(By Rossana Norman, GÉANT) On the arrival of the cable ship Ile de Bréhat to Fortaleza (Brazil), and the start of the cable landing operation of a section of the EllaLink submarine cable that will connect Europe to Latin America, under the auspices of the EU-funded BELLA Programme, we had the opportunity to interview Jeremie Maillet, VP of Marine Operations for Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN).
In early November 2020 EllaLink started the loading operations, onboard the vessel Ile de Bréhat, of the submarine cable that will enable direct long-term interconnectivity between Europe and Latin America to meet the needs of the R&E communities in both continents, thanks to the EU-funded BELLA Programme. CONNECT (GÉANT’s on-line magazine) spoke with EllaLink to learn more about the loading process and the effects of the pandemic on this specific operation.
On 22 October, for the second year in a row, EllaLink received Capacity Media’s Global Carrier Award as “Best Subsea Project of the Year”; EllaLink is the optical platform which offers secure high capacity connectivity on the unique low latency transatlantic route between Europe and Latin America.
