February 24, 2021: RedCLARA’s Technical Manager, Marco Teixeira, visiting the Equinix-São Paulo datacenter (Brazil), carried out the installation of the first router equipment for BELLA-T.
The new equipment became part of the RedCLARA backbone, and its function will be to connect the Brazilian academic network, RNP, at a higher capacity and connect the links that go to Argentina and Chile.
According to Marco Teixeira, “this change will allow us to receive 100G links and represents a gigantic increase in routing capacity. Just to have an idea of the capacity, today the router in operation has 120G per second installed and the new one is 2.4Tbps per second; an increase of 1900% if we look at the current one”.
The equipment that comes to contribute to the land phase of the BELLA Programme, which considers the improvement of the South American optical backbone of RedCLARA, is not yet in use, but since its installation has already been carried out, service migrations will soon begin.
